Time to find reason… or reason to find time to watch?

The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya sounded like an interesting title. It had glided past me once in the past but I was busy with other things so didn’t really pay attention, it is the second series to The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, also not on my known anime list. Who cares about continuity? Begin with second series? Why not?

She's hyperactive and interesting. Haruhi deserves an anime series about her.

It started in a high school, girl and boy with pretty big eyes and an elegant print art which makes my favourite anime style. They then went to a clubroom, bantered with some humorous dialogue and a clever ‘science, Gods and planetary travel times’ sketch. A girl in a maid dress then asks to go back in time three years. Normal so far– Wait what. Time travel?

Because what anime is an anime without a girl in a maid dress?

Turns out the Haruhi Suzumiya series is about time travelling around this named girl, nothing overly special and fantastical happens, but it is done cleverly, with good taste and humour.

With an epileptic-inducing black-screen montage for the ending credits to a catchy kawaii pitch theme tune it had me giggling enough to want to know more. Travel into the future and you may find both series on my already watched list.
